Thomas Campbell (1777-1844)
Scottish poet and editor, Thomas Campbell was born in Glasgow. His first work, "The Pleasures of Hope," published in 1799, made him an overnight success. Much of his fame, however, can be attributed to his poems, "Hohenlinden," "Ye mariners of England," and "The Battle of the Baltic." He published several volumes of poetry.
