A False Friend...

Others will hurt you,
others will lie;
for the life of me
I don't know why.
Who can understand
the things people do and say
when their minds are bent
on ruining the day.
I can only say that
you should keep your faith in you
when others offend
with the things they say and do.
Close your ears when
the insults fall
and refuse to let them
touch you at all.
Why let a false friend
lead your hope astray?
Put the relationship behind you;
march surely on your way.
And let it be a balm
when bruised you may be
that you'll always have
a true friend in me.
For as long as forever
I'll believe in you,
and I'll cheer you on
in everything you do.
